About the Role

We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer to join our small team in New York City and help shape product, technical systems, and company culture from the ground up alongside the founders. An ideal candidate will have a strong body of work demonstrating ownership of complex, production-grade web applications and sound technical judgment in fast-paced environments.

You must be prepared to walk into the office on day one and assume technical leadership over a bleeding edge web product.

Responsibilities

You will own large, ambiguous problem spaces and turn them into shipped product. This role spans product engineering, systems architecture, and early-stage team leadership.

More specifically:

• Architecting and shipping core product features across frontend, backend, and infrastructure
• Owning key systems end-to-end (data models, APIs, deployment, observability)
• Designing scalable patterns for real-time feeds, search, chat, and browsing, among other core pillars of the product.
• Implementing ML-intensive product capabilities, including:
  • Semantic search and retrieval
  • Embedding pipelines and vector indexing
  • Automated tagging and/or classification using off-the-shelf models
• Making pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scalability in a live product
• Establishing technical standards, patterns, and conventions for the team as the codebase grows
• Collaborating directly with founders on product direction and technical strategy
• Identifying technical risks early and proposing concrete mitigation strategies

As the company grows, you will also:

• Help hire, onboard, and mentor future engineers
• Strongly influence engineering culture, tooling choices, and development workflow
• Participate in high level decision making regarding roadmap, org structure, and execution velocity

Your Background

Minimum qualifications include:

• Previous experience shipping production-grade software end-to-end
• Comfortably moving across frontend, backend, and infra layers
• Wielding large databases, APIs, and system boundaries
• Studying and adapting to the latest advancements in industry-relevant technologies
• Effectively communicating complex systems, tradeoffs, and technical decision-making
• Practical experience working with modern ML/AI systems in production environments

Preferred qualifications include:

• 3-5 years of experience at high-growth, consumer grade startups
• A strong bias for action
• Well developed personal philosophy on pop culture, creative tools, digital communities, and the future of the social web
• Experience using novel AI coding tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Codex…

Compensation+

This role's base salary will range between $150,000 - $200,000 depending on previous experience, skillset, and fit. As the company's foundational technical hire, you will also be granted a meaningful equity stake commensurate with early stage ownership, responsibility, and impact.
